Select which SMTP server to send an email from for this particular Task. Available options are Default settings (configured in Automation Workshop options) or, alternatively, you can provide Task-specific custom SMTP server settings and configure it in this tab.

ServerDetails
Server configuration Provides choice between default and Task specific SMTP server:
  • Default settings · the SMTP server specified in the Email Server tab of Automation Workshop options will be used for email sending.
  • Custom SMTP server configuration & authentication · allows using a separate SMTP server for this Send Email Action, which can be different from the default or servers used for other Actions.
SMTP server Provide the SMTP server address (Domain name or IP address) that will be used for sending messages to a mail server for relaying · Learn more about SMTP server configuration in email clients
Port Specify the SMTP server port number.
Authentication Select SMTP authentication method:
  • None · no authentication is necessary.
  • OAuth2 · provides modern, secure authentication via API Keys & Credentials. When this method is selected, the standard Username and Password fields are replaced with a Use credentials dropdown, allowing you to choose from existing OAuth 2.0 credentials or create a new one.
OAuth 2.0 is required for services like Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 in cases where basic username/password login is no longer supported.
  • Auto detect · intelligently detects the authentication method based on the SMTP server reply and seamlessly initiates the most secure communication session possible in the given context.
However, OAuth2 cannot be auto-detected because it requires a predefined credential. If OAuth2 is needed, be sure to manually select it and configure the appropriate credential first.
  • PLAIN · non-encrypted Base64 encoded passwords are used.
  • LOGIN · non-encrypted Base64 encoded passwords are used.
  • NTLM · Integrated Windows Authentication automatically provides credentials on the Windows level.
  • CRAM-MD5 · specifies to use CRAM-MD5 authentication supported by some types of extended SMTP servers without TLS (Transport Layer Security).
Username Provide the SMTP authentication username.
Password Provide the SMTP authentication password.
Use credentials Select from existing OAuth 2.0 credentials or click the link to create and configure a new one through the API Keys & Credentials Manager.
Connection Choose between Regular and secure client and SMTP connection:
  • Regular · the connection is made over a non-encrypted protocol.
  • SSL · specifies to use a secure SSL connection with the SMTP server.
  • STARTTLS · specifies to use a secure STARTTLS connection with the SMTP server.
Version Choose how client and SMTP server negotiates the version of TLS or SSL to be used in secure connection:
  • Auto · automatically chooses the best possible TLS version for a particular SMTP server.
  • SSLv3 · oldest version.
  • TLS 1.0 · deprecated by most servers.
  • TLS 1.1 · deprecated by most servers.
  • TLS 1.2 · the most widely supported version by most servers.
  • TLS 1.3 · the latest TLS standard.
TLS errors Carefully assess all risks when allowing TLS errors to be ignored in a production environment. Choose to either fail or ignore any certificate errors caused when connecting to secure SMTP server using SSL or STARTTLS:
  • Strict · email sending will fail on any TLS error.
  • Ignore · usually it is fine to use self-signed SSL certificates and ignore related TLS errors in secure LAN environments, or when the connection to the SMTP server is secured by other means, such as VPN tunnels.
Use custom HELO greeting Provide text that will be used for the HELO / EHLO greeting when initiating a client and SMTP connection. If not specified otherwise, the computer name is used for the initiation of the SMTP connection.
Connect using this IP address In case your machine features multiple connections to a network, it is possible to choose which one will be used by providing the Domain name or IP address of the necessary interface.
