"Could not copy file"

Overview

This error indicates that the Copy File Action failed to copy the specified file from the source to the destination.

Cause

Possible causes include an invalid source or destination path, a source file that does not exist, insufficient read or write permissions for the user account running Automation Workshop, an inaccessible or read-only local or network destination, or insufficient disk space.

Event example

See an example of the Could not copy file Event message:

  • Task "Order Validation" Action "Copy File" could not copy file "c:\invoices\*.pdf". Problem with path: "c:\invoices\review\". Access is denied. [os:5; aw:19]

Solution

As a workaround, enable Advanced fallback options checkbox, and in the Error properties uncheck the 0 files affected checkbox.

Verify whether specified path or folder name does not contain characters that are not allowed in folder name. Check whether a file with specified name is present in source path.

Login with administrator account to set appropriate permissions. To set permissions, open Security tab in specified folder properties, choose user account on which Automation Workshop is executed and mark necessary checkboxes.

Verify if destination drive and location is accessible and is not read only. Check if the destination disk has enough free space.

SMB signing required?

The device hosting the share may not support SMB signing or may not have it enabled. Enable SMB signing on the server or NAS if possible. Alternatively, the requirement can be relaxed on the affected computer, but this reduces protection and should only be used on trusted networks.
